Brawn GP Won't Use KERS
Brawn GP Won't Use KERSAlong with the many other changes to the rules and regulations for the latest 2009 Formula One season, using a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) is now allowed. This allows drivers to gain a momentary boost of speed, once it is activated by a special button on the steering wheel.

The system works using special flywheel technology to capture the kinetic energy from the driveline as it decelerates. It then takes this energy and puts it back into the driveline via a Torotrak CVT system while accelerating. The FIA has limited the usage of the system to 400 KJ per lap, which gives the drivers who use this system an extra 85 hp for a period of 6.67 seconds at any point at which they feel it would help them in the race.
